Original Penguin Enters the Cultural Conversation
During Christian Arkins’ years helping shape Original Penguin, the revived American sportswear label moved beyond product and into contemporary celebrity culture. Jake Gyllenhaal appeared in GQ wearing the brand’s unmistakable red Earl polo — an image that captured Original Penguin’s renewed relevance for a younger, culturally connected audience.
It was part of a broader transformation in which heritage, product, styling and personality came together to reposition an American classic as a modern global lifestyle brand.

Elite Model Look Nederland — Jury Member
Christian was invited to join the jury of Elite Model Look Nederland in 2014, representing McGregor alongside senior figures from Elite Model Look and Elite Amsterdam. The role extended his creative influence beyond collections and campaigns into casting, image and the identification of emerging fashion talent.
That 2014 Elite Model Look generation also marked the beginning of Yasmin Wijnaldum’s modeling career. Wijnaldum entered the Elite Model Look competition that year and went on to represent the Netherlands internationally before becoming one of the most recognizable Dutch models of her generation — later appearing for Prada, Valentino, Versace and other major fashion houses.

HyperNatural — Building a Brand from the Material Up
Miami Living profiled HyperNatural at launch, identifying Christian Arkins and Chris Kolbe as its co-founders and tracing a creative partnership that began more than two decades earlier during their Original Penguin years.
The feature explores HyperNatural’s radical material proposition: performance luxury created from natural and regenerated inputs including jade stone, seafood waste, Supima cotton and recycled fibers. For Christian, it represents brand building at its most complete — concept, material, product, identity and storytelling developed as one coherent system.

“Ultimate Shirt for Your Next Vacation”
CNN’s travel coverage recognized HyperNatural for doing something unusually difficult: making technical performance feel refined. The brand’s natural-material approach delivered cooling, comfort and versatility without the synthetic visual language traditionally associated with performance apparel.
It is a concise expression of Christian’s design philosophy — innovation should be felt in the product, not shouted through it.
“The Best Polo Shirt”
Esquire’s recognition of HyperNatural placed the young brand directly within the premium menswear conversation.
More importantly, it validated the proposition behind the product: that sustainability, natural performance and luxury do not need to exist as separate ideas. Christian’s role connected material innovation to fit, design and brand expression — turning a highly technical concept into something desirable and deceptively simple.
HyperNatural — Performance Menswear, Reconsidered
Men’s Journal added to the growing editorial recognition around HyperNatural’s approach to the modern polo — a product designed around natural cooling, premium fabrication and everyday versatility.
The coverage represents the convergence of Christian’s career: decades of product knowledge, creative direction and brand building translated into an entrepreneurial proposition designed for the next generation of menswear.
